The transport minister Dan Ťok officially started the construction of another section of the D3 motorway in section Úsilné – Hodějovice. Over 7 km of motorway will be used as the České Budějovice bypass and keep transit traffic away from the South Bohemian capital, which is something the local residents will highly appreciate. The section Úsilné – Hodějovice connects to section Hodějovice – Třebonín, the construction of which started at the end of March.
“I am happy that we are starting the construction of the second part of České Budějovice bypass within such a short period of time. The traffic situation for the residents of České Budějovice is far from easy and I believe that it will significantly improve after the bypass has been opened,” says Dan Ťok.
The 20km bypass of České Budějovice is split in two building sections: construction of D3 0310/I Úsilné-Hodějovice with a length of 7.2 km (which is now starting) and D3 0310/II Hodějovice-Třebonín with a length of 12.6 km (construction started on 29 March). Construction of a tunnel that is almost 1 km long will be part of the Úsilné – Hodějovice section. Both bypass sections will be completed simultaneously.
On the D3 motorway sections D3 0309/I Bošilec-Ševětín with 8.1 km and scheduled opening in July 2019 and D3 0309/II Ševětín-Borek with 10.7 km are currently under construction. The D3 motorway is the longest piece of motorway under construction in the Czech Republic: almost 40 new km are being built.
When completed, the D3 will become the artery road between Prague and the South Bohemian Region and connect to the motorway network in Austria. Its length will be 170 km and it will cover the route Prague – České Budějovice – Austria. The whole D3 motorway will belong to the E55 European road coming from Scandinavia and crossing our territory towards Greece.
Together with section Úsilné – Hodějovice, a total of 255 km of motorways and category I roads are under construction. Of this 140 km are on the green field, 52 km is the D2 modernisation and 63 km are category I roads. Check the current progress on the ŘSD interactive map.
