Up until now, many goods moving between Turkey and Europe have been transported by truck via the Balkan route. This is coming to an end, because DB Schenker’s new transport solution, which includes a ship connection between northern Italy and Turkey, makes it possible to transport goods quickly and easily from Scandinavia via Turkey, even to Iran – and the entire service, including handling customs formalities, is offered from one source. In order to meet the strong demand, the international logistics services provider will offer multiple weekly transports in both directions, starting immediately.
Utilizing the ports of Trieste (Italy), Toulon (France), and Pendik/Mersin (Turkey), the new multi-modal solution provides fast “door-to-door” transports between Scandinavia, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Iran and Turkey. The transport time can be further optimized through the use of different transport carriers because, in contrast to traditional land routes, possible wait times at borders can be avoided this way. The end-to-end transport chains can also provide reliable lead times at a reasonable price-performance ratio for complex and distributed production systems. In addition, there are no warehousing costs and the goods remain secure and protected in the same transport container throughout the entire route.
New transport solution cuts CO2 emissions by more than 70 percent
Along with an optimal lead time, the multi-modal solution also makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 70 percent. This means that using trains and ships, on average, up to about 2,500 km of road transport can be cut multiple times per week in Europe alone by using trains and ships.
“The demand for efficient, innovative and flexible transport solutions continues to grow. By combining different transport carriers, we can meet these requirements optimally and offer our customers new, cost-effective, environmentally-friendly alternatives to the classic solutions,” says Andreas Stadler, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker Turkey.
