Port of Antwerp teamed up with Flanders Investment & Trade, the General Administration of Customs & Excise and Brussels Airport in a visit to four Chinese cities to promote the advantages of Belgium for e-commerce.
Luc Arnouts (Manager, International Networks) and Philippe Beaujean (Manager, Shippers and Forwarders) from Port of Antwerp participated in a promotional tour from 5 to 12 March, visiting the large urban trade centres of Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu.
From Belgium to Europe in 48h with multichannel logistics
“The combination of sea and air freight offers attractive prospects for Chinese e-commerce companies,” says Luc Arnouts. “From the port of Antwerp you can reach the great majority of Europe within 48 hours, via road, rail or barge, or via the airports of Brussels and Liège. This makes Port of Antwerp the ideal gateway for multichannel logistics.” Port of Antwerp already has direct trade connections with China via regular shipping routes and the OBOR rail link.
BE-GATE: efficient customs procedures
BE-GATE, an initiative of the General Administration of Customs & Excise, has also drawn the interest of Chinese entrepreneurs. BE-GATE is a system that enables e-commerce merchandise to be declared and cleared through Customs in advance. The project is unique in Europe, guaranteeing quick and smooth Customs procedures.
“The Antwerp port community additionally has a great many professional service providers for e-commerce,” Philippe Beaujean emphasises. “The Chinese e-commerce giants were also very interested in these.”
